The Northern Coast California Wine Region
This California wine region has four wine producing regions: Napa Valley wine country, Sonoma wine country, Mendocino County wine country, and Lake County wine region. The region borders the Pacific Ocean on the west and mountain ranges on the east. Its soil is a wonderful selection of volcanic, sand, silt, gravel, and loam and temperatures range from hot to warm days and most areas experience good cooling in the evening. The Napa Valley wine country and Sonoma County wine region have many fine wines successfully competing in the world market - an incredible achievement considering the short period of time California wines have been marketing their wines. The most distinguished and flavorful California wines in northern coastal California wine region are: .~ California Cabernet Sauvignon . .~ Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc . .~ Napa Valley Chardonnay . Sonoma Chardonnay . .~ California Pinot Noir.
The Central and Southern California Wine Regions
The Central and Southern California wine regions lists seven wine producing regions: San Francisco Bay, Monterey County, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Sierra Foothills, Central Valley, and Southern California. The area's northern sections are on flat lands or plateaus, with sandy, silty, and clay soils, or marine-type soil. Winters are mild and wet, summers can be quite warm or pleasantly fresh and temperate, and the coastal region is cooler with areas of considerable fog. This California wine region produces some remarkable California wines and continues developing new vineyards. California Chardonnay is the premier white wine with California Sauvignon Blanc closely following. The climate and soil variations seem to favor California red wines more than California white wine with successful reds: . .~ California Cabernet Sauvignon . .~ California Pinot Noir . .~ California Syrah . .~ California Merlot . .~ California Zinfandel.
