Spain - Priorat
The Spanish Wine Region of Priorat traditionally has been known for only one wine - the Spanish red wine, Cartoixa Scala Dei Negre - made from very old Spanish Garnacha vines. Besides its strong flavor, the highlight of the Spanish red wine is its ability to age for 50 years. In the late 1980s international wine varieties, such as Spanish Cabernet Sauvignon, Spanish Merlot, Spanish Syrah and Spanish Pinot Noir were planted into the steep slopes of the Ebro River valley. Some exciting, complex and powerful Spanish red wines have come from this venture.
