Prova Regia

Quinta da Romeira, producers of the excellent Prova Regia Premium Arinto, was established as an estate for Queen Catherine of Braganza in 1703. However, it did not begin producing wine until 1988 when the Quinta da Romeira estate development project began. The project sought to restore the 18th century manor house and chapel, as well as build a state of the art winery. About 80 hectares of vines have been planted, mostly of the Arinto grape.

The estate is located in the Bucelas region, just 12km north of Lisboa. The Arinto grape thrives here thanks to a unique microclimate. Quinta da Romeira is situated in a small valley between the sea and a river. The growing season is much more mild than other inland regions due to cooling winds from the Atlantic. This creates a slow ripening period which gives the Arinto grape such a pleasant acidity. Quinta da Romeira hand harvests its best crops of Arinto to obtain the optimum levels of maturity, and uses these hand-selected grapes to produce its Prova Regia Premium.
