The Ahr German wine region is located along the Ahr River where the valley's slopes are steep and vineyards are terraced. The Ahr wine region of Germany is north of where red grape varieties are expected to grow yet Ahr's Mediterranean microclimate is warm enough for the red grapes to ripen. Ahr has a reputation for its light, sharply fruity German Pinot Noir (Sp.tburgunder wine) which is rather expensive when purchased outside Germany.
