Entre Rios - Minhos
Located in the Northern part of the country between the river Minho, which borders with Spain, and the river Douro (Ribeira del Duero in Spain). Vinho Verde is by far the most extensively produced wine in this region. Entre Rios - Minhos is one of the biggest appellations in the world. Their Vinho Verde wines are light, slightly under-ripe, high acidity, refreshing, and inexpensive. What is less known is that Vinho Verde is mostly a red wine. We very seldom see it in the stores, but it is a delicious, unpretentious, refreshing red. The market demands, and therefore production is focused more towards whites, but watch out for a red Vinho Verde. The other interesting wine from this region is a white wine called Alvarinho, a cousin of the Spanish Albarinho. An interesting, refreshing and elegant white.
