Canada - British Columbia

The Canadian wine country of British Columbia is the country's westernmost province. It's central wine-making area is Okanagan Valley. The small community of Oliver in the Okanagan Valley is known as "the wine capital of Canada" because of its concentration of vineyards and wineries. The British Columbia wine region is at the northernmost tip of vine-growing in the world with the majority of its vines less than 10 years old. The dry climate and low humidity of the Okanagan Valley protect against disease and, with irrigation systems, produce primarily fragrant, dry white wines.

The white wines which thrive in the British Columbia wine country include Canadian Pinot Gris - British Columbia's signature wine, Canadian Chardonnay, Canadian Gew.rztraminer, Canadian Sauvignon Blanc, and Canadian Pinot Blanc. The red wines, whose grapes are difficult to grow in cool climates like the British Columbia wine country, include Canadian Merlot, Canadian Pinot Noir, Canadian Cabernet Sauvignon, Canadian Syrah (Shiraz), and Canadian Cabernet Franc.
